How close to my due date should I take my prenatal classes?
We recommend completing all prenatal classes no later than 4 weeks before your due date. You can certainly complete a program earlier if it suits your work schedule or if your physician has indicated that preterm labour is likely. We generally recommend that parents expecting twins finish by 34 weeks and even earlier for triplets!
My physician thinks that I may need a caesarean delivery. Do I still need to take prenatal classes?
Many women who expect a caesarean birth may in fact be permitted to labour for some time and even have an uncomplicated vaginal delivery. In addition, even if a C-section is ultimately required, you may be in labour for some time before the procedure is completed. Consequently, many women have found it reassuring to complete a prenatal class providing information not just about caesarean delivery, but that also covers stages of labour, pain management and vaginal birth, as well as relaxation, comfort techniques and pain medication options.
