Breastfeeding / Lactation Consultation

Special concerns can be addressed during a private appointment with a lactation consultant, both before and after birth. Your consultant will provide a written summary of her assessment and recommendations.

Topics can include:

• Ensuring a good start to breastfeeding and avoidance of common problems

• Concerns over latch, infection or thrush

• Management of nipple pain, milk supply issues or low weight gain

• Preparing for breastfeeding after breast surgery
• Prenatal care planning to avoid previous breastfeeding difficulties.

Cost: First postnatal consults in home or in hospital: $299 for 2 visits

          Subsequent in-home visits: $199 per hour

          Appointments in the centre: initial consult: $150 per hour ($80 per half-hour for follow-up     

          appointments less than one hour)
